Abstract
Background: The number of adult smokers in Indonesia has shown an increasing trend over the past decade. There are an additional 8.8 million adult smokers, with the number increasing from 60.3 million in 2011 to 69.1 million in 2021.
Objective: Analyzing the relationship between attitude and smoking behavior of students of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, Batch 2023
Method: Analytical observational research with cross sectional study design. The population in the study were all male students of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, Makassar State University (UNM) class of 2023 from 6 study programs totaling 700 students. The sampling technique was carried out using simple random sampling with a sample size of 281 people. Univariate analysis was conducted to identify smoking attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, the chi square correlation test was conducted to identify the relationship between attitudes and student smoking behavior.
Results: The study showed that there was a significant relationship between attitude and smoking behavior in college students (0.008 <0.05). Students with a positive attitude tend not to smoke (60.4%). Conversely, students with negative attitudes predominantly smoke (76.9%).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between attitudes and smoking behavior in students of the faculty of sports and health sciences class of 2023 Makassar State University.
