Abstract
Background: Nutritional status is one of the factors that play an important role in the quality of human resources, especially those related to intelligence, productivity, creativity. The role of parents, especially mothers, is important in fulfilling children's nutrition. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding with the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months.
Method: This study used an analitycal obeservasional method with case control design. This research was conducted between April 2022 in Moodu Village, Kota Timur District, Gorontalo City. The Population in this study were all children aged 6-24 months in Moodu Village, Kota Timur District, Gorontalo City totaling 108 children. Sampling using purposive sampling with a sample size of 50 children. Data analysis used chi-square test with SPSS.
Results: The results of the Chi-Square test of knowledge with the nutritional status of children according to the index (BB/U) p-value (0.768), (PB/U) (0.785), and (BB/PB) (0.636), > (0.05), means that there is no significant relationship between mother's knowledge and the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months. And exclusive breastfeeding with the nutritional status of children according to the index (BB/U) p-value (0.452), (PB/U) (0.394), and (BB/PB) (0.578), > (0.05), means that there is no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the nutritional status of children.
Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between mother's knowledge and the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 month, and there is no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the nutritional status of children. Suggestions are expected for mothers who have children aged 6-24 months to increase knowledge about nutrition. And provide training to cadres so as to provide information to mothers exclusive breastfeeding until the age of 6 months.
