Abstract
Background : Lower back pain is discomfort in the area between the lowest ribs and the sacrum. Lower back pain can spread to other areas, and pain from other areas can also be felt in the lower back. Based on the initial survey of 10 street sweeper workers, 60% of the workers experienced lower back pain. They have an average age of above 35 years old, worked for more than 4 hours, and had years of service more than 5 years. On the other hand, 40% of the workers did not experience lower back pain. They have an average age of less than 35 years, work less than 4 hours per day, and haveless than 5 years of service. This study aims to determine the determinants of lower back pain complaints in street sweepers in Kotamobagu City.
Method : This quantitative research employed a cross-sectional method.The study was conducted from February to March 2023 and involved 113 street sweeper workers in Kotamobagu City as the study sample. Sampling using total sampling, and the instrument used was a questionnaire, while data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The findings obtained one independent variable that was related to the dependent variable of lower back pain complaints, namely work mass (p-value 0.000), as well as independent variables that were not related, namely age (p-value 1.000), work duration (p-value 0.366) and smoking habits (p-value 0.480). It is recommended to perform muscle stretching before and after work and to take breaks if experiencing lower back pain.
