Abstract
Background: Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition caused by insufficient nutritional intake over a long period of time due to the provision of food that is not in accordance with nutritional needs. Nutritional problems among children under five in the world, around 165 million children aged under 5 years experience stunting and in African and Asian countries around 90% of the cases (Trihono, 2015). In 2025, globally there will be around 40% reduction in stunting cases, where in 2020 from 171 million it fell to 100 million in 2025.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and parity with the incidence of stunting in children aged 6-12 months in Kotamobagu Municipality.
Method: The type of research used is an analytical research method with a cross sectional study approach. The population in this study were all toddlers who were in the working area of the Wundulako Health Center, totaling 1,662 toddlers and the sample in the research were 94 toddlers who were in the working area of the Wundulako Health Center, taken using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were checklist sheets and height measurements for toddlers and exclusive breastfeeding. The variables studied were exclusive breastfeeding and stunting in toddlers.
Results: The results of the research show that there is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the Wundulako District Health Center Working Area. Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, based on the results of the Chi-Square Tests statistical test, obtained a value of p = 0.000 < ɑ = 0.05.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in the Wundulako District Health Center Working Area. Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi.
