Abstract
Background: Nowadays, the development of technology has increased significantly. In addition to its benefits, excessive use of social media can also have a negative impact on the health of its users. One of the adverse effects of excessive social media use is insomnia. Insomnia is a state of difficulty in starting, maintaining and feeling good sleep quality.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of social media and the incidence of insomnia in Health Administration Students at Makassar State University.
Method: The type of research used is quantitative analytic using a cross sectional approach. With simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 216 respondents. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, Makassar State University. Data analysis techniques using univariate and bivariate analysis in the form of Chi Square with a significance level of <0.05.
Results: The results show that there is a significant relationship between the use of social media and the incidence of insomnia (p = 0.033.)
Conclusion: . The conclusion of the study is that there is a relationship between the use of social media and the incidence of insomnia in Health Administration Students at Makassar State University.
