Abstract

Background: Role is behavior with regard to who holds a certain position, the position identifies a person's status or place in the social system. Status is the position a person has in a group. Toilet training is an attempt to train children to be able to control urination and defecation.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family roles and economic status with the implementation of toilet training independently in toddlers (1-3 years).

Method: The type of research used is descriptive analytic method with a cross-sectional study approach. The population in this study were all parents (mothers) who have children aged 1 - 3 years in the village of Molompar Timur Jaga I, II, III, Belang District, amounting to 32 people, which were determined using total sampling. The sample is 32 people, consisting of 12 children aged 3 years, 2 years old children are 13 people and 1 year old children are 7 people. The data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test with a significance level of 95% (α): 0.05. 

Results: The study showed that there was a relationship between the role of the family and the implementation of toilet training (p = 0.000) and there was no relationship between the role of the family and the implementation of toilet training (p = 0.440).

Conclution : There is a relationship between the role of the family and the implementation of toilet training and there is no relationship between the role of the family and the implementation of toilet training. It is hoped that the local government and health cadres will cooperate with competent health workers in the village to further increase the knowledge of parents, especially about toilet training, in order to improve the behavior of mothers in toilet training their children.
